For sale is a very unique example of an 80s racing bike in excellent condition.
I bought this frame “new-old-stock” last year with every intention of using it for wet days but, frankly, it turned out to be far too beautiful for that and it has been sitting here largely unridden since. And I prefer riding my Emonda anyway.
I built it up with 9-speed Ultegra 6500 components, Mavic Open-Pro rims on Ultegra hubs, Continental 4 seasons 25mm tyres, Cinelli 130mm stem, ITM “Special” Belgian-drop bars, Fizik Arione Classic saddle and Elite Ciussi stainless steel bottle cages. And a matching frame pump, obviously.
Currently fitted with nasty old flat pedals but, as pictured, I have some Shimano SPD-SL pedals in silver for it too.
ISSUES… The right hand shifter is a bit temperamental, sometimes the clicks don’t work. This will likely need replacing with another 9 speed unit at some point, though I’ve kinda learnt to live with it.
The Cinelli stem has a 26mm clamp and the ITM bars are 25.4. As a result I have shimmed it with a cutout from a beer can. The connection is sufficiently solid.
As with all 80s road frames, the rear dropouts are spaced to 126mm. However, 130mm fits and that’s what is currently in there.
I believe the frame was likely designed with 20mm tyres in mind. 25mm will fit, and that is in fact what is currently fitted. But the rear wheel will not slide out of the dropouts without fouling the seat tube unless the tyre is already deflated.
The frame, as you can tell, is very large. Unless you are over 6ft tall and run a saddle height of at least 80cm from the middle of the bottom bracket it’s very unlikely this will work for you. For reference I am 6ft3 and the saddle height, as pictured, is 82cm.
Buy it now for £800 which includes postage. I’ll leave offers open but please, nothing stupid. And it’ll help your offer if you can collect from Mayland, Essex.
